Classical biological control against insect pests in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East: What influences its success?

چکیده
Many factors can affect the success and failure of classical biological control. However, these have mainly been studied independently each other, which leaves their relative importance within complexity control (CBC) programmes unknown. Therefore, we set out to take a more holistic view on that may impact outcome CBC insect pests by predators parasitoids. To this end, filtered BIOCAT catalogue extract entries for Greater Western Palearctic ecozone added 15 new explanatory variables. These concerned traits released agents, target pests, host plants target, but also included number introductions specific agent-target combinations as management aspect. We then analysed data regarding three levels success: agent establishment, population, complete target. Between 1890 2010 total 780 insects were undertaken in area, constituting 416 combinations. Overall establishment was 32%, successful single agents 18%, 11%. The significantly influencing decreased with increasing level success. Remarkably few agent-related influenced probability using oligophagous parasitoids chances Other significant related or plants. For example, sap feeders attacking reproductive plant parts likely be successfully controlled. rate increased particular against univoltine pests. findings suggest focus increase is not fully justified should complemented consideration lower trophic other aspects CBC, such abiotic management.

Adler discussed two decorated bone plaques that a German antiquarian, Fritz Rodiger, had suggested were maps, but he omitted both from his corpu...
